TANK INSPECTIONS

Q-Riims Inspection and Testing services make tank inspections easier, safer and better

If you have an above-ground steel storage tank in use in your business or facility, it is essential for safety that it is inspected on a regular basis. No matter what the tank is designed to hold be it acids, chemicals, oil or petroleum, tank inspections are crucial for above ground storage tanks that are built to API 650 and API12 standards.

These tests examine the foundation, tank bottom, shell, roof, attached appurtenances, ancillary equipment and depending on the tank the PVC internal liner to ensure that they are all structurally sound and in acceptable working condition.

Tank farms across Australia are benefiting from the use of Q-Riims PTZ Remote Visual Inspection Camera in-service. This process is involves opening one nozzle to give access to the PTZ camera enabling the immediate determination of product quality and identification of the tank condition. This is a lot safer and cost-effective than draining product and conducting confined space entry. Inspectors can also give customers the opportunity to witness firsthand the condition of plant and any issues identified.

Tanks need to be tested regularly in order to meet API-653 regulations

According to the API-653 regulations all tanks in operation tanks need to be conducted every five years maximum for both internal and external inspections. External inspections are visual inspections of the tank that are conducted by API-653 qualified operators and are crucial to check for leaks, rust, corrosion, warping, broken welding, structural integrity and a variety of other defects. External inspections can be carried out while the tanks are in operation and can be conducted more frequently.

Internal inspections require the tanks to be empty so that the internals of the tank can be checked to ensure that there is no corrosion, wastage or damage due to the contents of the tanks. The thickness of the internal walls is also measured to test structural integrity.
The Q-RIIMS team are trusted providers with experienced certified inspectors and qualified engineers including RPEQ’s who work as a team to provide our customers quality, comprehensive inspections, engineering, non-destructive testing and supporting services.

Internal inspections in service performed by Q-Riims can be conducted using a GE Zoom pan and tilt system that delivers and records real-time footage of the inside of the tank.
